Get Safe Space certified with our new six-module training Working It Out. Upon completing the certification, you will receive a certificate and a sticker for your mirror or salon window to indicate that it’s a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community: both stylists and clients.

The course is part of Hairdressers United: Stand Together Against Bullying, Redken’s new initiative, launched in June 2022. Its goal is to elevate hair salons as a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community. Redken has partnered with the It Gets Better Project, a global NGO, to amplify stylists’ personal stories and reassure LGBTQ+ youth that (1) it gets better; (2) the hairdressing industry could be welcoming professional home for them as well.


You will learn:

  • Differences and intersections of sex assigned at birth, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation – concepts vital to the LGBTQ+ experience.
  • Pronouns, why they are important, how to use gender-inclusive pronouns, and more.
  • What feels appropriate and what language feels outdated, as well as how to properly refer to someone based on their identity.
  • How to make a space safe, inclusive, and welcoming to LGBTQ+ employees, clients, and customers.
